Visiting McMinnville

McMinnville is surrounded by Yamhill County's nearly 100 vineyards and 40 wineries, more than in any other county in the state. Yamhill County's wine makers consistently produce wines which receive high honors in many American and international wine competitions.

Most of the areas wineries have tasting rooms open to the public, and since most of the wineries are located on picturesque hillsides, a wine tasting tour can be a delightful experience. For tasting hours a winery tour map is available by calling (503) 646-2985.

McMinnville is home to the HK-1 Flying Boat (The Spruce Goose). Built by Howard Hughes in the 1940's, it boasts a wingspan of 320 feet and is the largest wood-framed aircraft ever built. The Spruce Goose arrived in McMinnville in February 1993 and will be showcased in a museum scheduled to open in the next few years.

The McMinnville Downtown Historic District comprises 52 commercial buildings of architectural and historical significance. The revitalization efforts of the McMinnville Downtown Association have made the downtown area one of the most charming and vital in the state. Visitors can enjoy shopping, live theater and fine restaurants.
