Turkey Rama, McMinnville's annual two day summer festival, is scheduled for Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12, 2008 in historic downtown McMinnville and at East Wortman Park and other locations throughout town. This city-wide celebration, the largest in Yamhill County, offers activities for everyone to enjoy. An outdoor concert, Farmer’s Market and Carnival will be held on Thursday, July 10, to precede the primary festival activities.
Each year thousands of people flock to McMinnville for the food, fun and entertainment. The community festival observes the historical importance of the once thriving turkey business in the surrounding county. McMinnville is located on Highway 99W 35 miles southwest of Portland and 30 miles northwest of Salem.
This year's event, themed “The Turkeys, They are a Changin’!” plays off the song by Bob Dylan, The Times They are a Changin’, and alludes to the exciting changes to this year’s festival. After 47 years of sponsoring Turkey Rama, the McMinnville Area Chamber of Commerce is sharing sponsorship this year with the McMinnville Downtown Association. The McMinnville Downtown Association is organizing the downtown vendor booths, and activities located in historic downtown.
